I mentioned in passing on this forum that I buy bandsaw blades from an outfit that welds them to order for me. Somebody (but I don't remember who) asked me where they were, and although I know how to get there, I forgot the actual name of the company. Well, I needed some more blades, so drove down and had some made, in the process getting the information to post here. As an aside, they also handle other cutting tools, saw blades, shaper knives, etcetera, but I use them primarily for bandsaw supplies.
The endorsement (no connection; couldn't even remember their name): I find the blades of very high quality; long lasting and made to my exact specification, meaning if I want a 93 1/2 inch 6TPI hook tooth in half inch width, I get that. If I want a skip tooth 3/8 inch, I can order that. Or anything I nedd, for that matter. They have pretty much everything a band/re-sawyer could ask for. All for a most reasonable (I'd say 50%) price of what I'd pay in the usual woodworker's store. To wit: I paid about $40 for four half inch 93 1/2" assorted blades, and you'd do better if you needed more than my modest requirements allow. And I think, you get better blades. Here is the detail:

Associated Industries (TK Industries is their DBA)
(206) 762-1211
1505 S 93rd St # D
Seattle, WA 98108
(This is in South Park off 99, very close to Delta Marine)

I recommend you call and order first, otherwise you cool your heels for a while waiting for them to weld 'em up. For this minor inconvenience, you get great quality and very (ahem) sharp pricing. I don't know if they mail order or not, no harm in asking.

I think I was the one that asked you about the blade place. Thanks Lew.

What's shaking, dude?

Eastside Saw
12880 Bel-Red Road
Bellevue, WA 98005

800/962-0279
425/454-7627

also does welded-to-length bandsaw blades. I seem to remembers something like $13.00 for a 105-1/2 inch x 3/8 blade, but it's been a long time.

I believe that

The Sharp Shop
128 S Lucile St
Seattle, WA 98108
(206) 762-6480

also does custom bandsaw blades. They're in Georgetown.

It didn't exactly ruin my day but man did this admittedly modest topic take some time to get a response.

I don't buy packaged bs blades because I like the welded ones; good to know about the Sharp Shop, thanks Nicholas. I assume they're the guys that also sharpen planer knives?

Pat, I'm laying on varnish now that it's warmed up; everything's drying more or less as it should and the deck project is finally moving along, maybe I'll take some pics and put them up. Epifanes, blocking, the whole routine. Trying something different, using the Wood Finish gloss, not sanding between coats number 1 and 4. It seems OK, odd brush feel. After coat 4, wait for everything to cure a bit then back to blocking, a couple more coats, then 7 and 8 get blocked and varnished as normal. see how it turns out; any excuse not to block every coat.

Also doing the finish carpentry and refinishing in a little room upstairs at home, real slow going; waiting for the floor guy to come in and do the re-knitting and finish work on that "deck" I have all the other sticks cut, wife wants me to wainscot it. My wife says...hey, move this thing along, what do you think you're doing, refinishing a boat?

I can only handle one "floor" at a time, and I don't want to refinish floors at home, though for some reason doing horrible backbreaking work on the boat doesn't present a problem to me. Go figure. You?

Manufacturer of Saw Blades & Sharpening

One of the best in the business, servicing businesses ranging from large sawmills to small cabinet shops up and down the West Coast via UPS.

Family owned and nice folks, too. I was retipping, grinding and hammering my sawmill blades myself until I discovered they would do a better job for all of 17 bucks a blade.
