I'm replacing some old teak handrails and a companionway hatch and plan to use some nice sapele lumber that I have. I'm also intending to build a new cockpit grate. I've read differing opinions on sapele and it's tendency to rot.
For those of you with experience with sapele, could I get away with just oiling the finished pieces with teak oil or do I need to really seal it with epoxy and varnish? The cabin wood pieces would not get too wet, but that cockpit grate might stay wet for extended periods. Thoughts?
