Alrighty locals,
Here is an official invite. Steven Bauer and I planned to get together on IVY's dock, and maybe my boatshop on Sunday June 25, right before I sail for Norfolk.
If you are interested, This may turn into quite the pre - cruise party!
IVY's dock is in Somer's Point, New Jersey, Right across the Ocean City-Longport bridge.
Anchoring is good just outside my creek, and I got room for dinghies.
There are several cheap hotels around if need be.
So, what says ya?

Thad,
It's in the penciled in stage; sounds like fun. Sitting here having fantasies of sailing Sjogin down. But more than likely we'll be heading to windward down the Parkway at 80MPH+. I'll keep you posted.

I'll bring some Gearys:
Pale Ale
Our flagship pale is a classic British pale ale with a nod to the legendary beers of Burton-on-Trent. Copper-colored, dry, clean and crisp with lots of late hope taste in an appetizing complex with ale fruitiness from imported Hampshire yeast.
Availability: year round
Original gravity: 1047
Alcohol by volume: 4.5%
Ingredients: Two row English malt (pale, crystal and chocolate); Cascade, Mt Hood, Tettnang and Fuggle Hops.

Hampshire Special Ale
Hampshire has a huge toasted malt flavor balanced by assertive hoppiness. The finish is long and lingering with the malt and hop notes blending with alcohol warmth.
Availability: year round
Original gravity: 1070
Alcohol by volume: 7%
Two row English Malt (pale, crystal and chocolate); Cascade, Mt Hood and East Kent Golding hops.

Well, I might as well give directions now.
*********From Ocean City:
Take the Ocean City/ Longport (Northernmost crossing).
At the light inbetween the Islands, make a Left towards the mainland. You will immediately go over the intercoastalwater way bridge. It's a 35 foot bridge...pretty high.
continue on, you will pass a closed japanese restaraunt on the left, a housing developement on the water on the left, then Graif's boatyard on the left.
At this point, you go over a tiny bridge, and make an immediate left on Launch ave. IVY and I are located right there. I am the third slip in from the bridge.
*********From The Garden State Parkway (going south)
Exit 30. Get off and pay the 70 cent toll. continue for about 2 miles to the Somer's Point Circle. (you will cross the rt 9 intersection on the way to the circle).
At the circle, you will go 3/4 of the way around. you will pass the point diner, circle liquor, and the 9th st. bridge to Ocean City. You will get off the circle then onto shore road. you will go immediately over an old iron bridge with nothing under it.
Continue on Shore road for about 2 miles. on your right, you will pass Mac's Bar, Gregory's Bar, Charlie's Bar, Shore memorial Hospital, and then you will get to Maryland ave. There is a Wa Wa convenience store at the corner.
Make a right on Maryland. go through the next intersection at Bay ave, pass Caroline's Bar on the left, and make a right on Launch ave immediately before the little bridge. My dock is right by the bridge. IVY is the green wooden sailboat there.
OK, I guess that is all that is important. If you send me a PM, I'll send you my cell phone number. we will start drinking by noon...

Tentatively, I'm in. I know we have plans on that Saturday, but a run up to Jersey Sunday evening by bike sounds fun (any excuse for a ride nowadays).
What time are you guys planning on getting together?

Sounds like the back is feeling better. That's good news. :)

Back is much better. Almost full range of motion and only occasional pain - though it can be severe.
Doc says deal with it, in so many words. "if it hurts, don't do it." ;) uh, OK.
jenny's telling me now that we're to be in the other Ocean City that weekend... but I didn't think we were. :(
Oh well, I'm itching for an excuse to head north on the bike, perhaps something else will come up.

I've been waiting for something like this for years! It seems that things like this don't happen in South Jersey nearly as often as in other places. I am pretty sure I am free that day. If so I will make an effort to attend. Ever since I changed jobs I have only been able to check the boards maybe once in two or three months, so I'll take finding this as a sign that I am destined to meet other wooden boat types in the area.

OK,
Its raining... but across the street is the best bar in South Jersey... Caroline's!
So, If you guys stop by, and I'm not on IVY (She will have her running lights on), we will be across the street in Caroline's. I am a short pudgey guy with straight blond hair half way down my back and a bunch of earrings. Can't miss me.

Hey Thad, thanks for showing us around. Ivy is a very cool boat. I took Mary by to see that Malabar Jr. and she keeps talking about it...
It was nice meeting Tom and Mike and hearing about their projects. Tom, how about some pictures of your Chris Craft? Sounds like she deserves her own thread. :)

Hello again Steven. It was nice to meet you and the others and have the opportunity to enjoy a cold one and of course discuss our intoxication with wooden boats.
You can see and read (probably more than you actually want) about Independence and the repairing and restoring work on her by clicking on her web site at www.ftkltd.com
