I finally figured out the proper position for the Gaff on Tidbit.

When Steven was out sailing with me he mentioned how the gaff saddle was not sitting on the spot on the mast designed for the saddle. I said yea I know I cant get the main to go up any more. We figured out if we loosened the sail where it is attached to the top of the Gaff the whole sail will slide down and you can raise the gaff saddle to where is is supposed to go.

Then I peak the gaff and the sail is set perfectly

Aces, Joe. :D I'm bumming that I'm not on my way to Mystic right now for the Small Craft Weekend, but this rain is helping me a little bit. If it's not raining in Connecticut please don't tell me!:)

I am ready with full rain gear for the JGSCF...foul weather jacket, pants, boots and hat...I hope people show up with their boats to do some rowing and sailing...off to Mystic! See you there.

Cheers,
Clint

It's actually quite beautiful here now Steven! The last few days it's been 78-80 degrees with only a few puffy white clouds. Wind out of the SSW 10-15k. 'Sposed to be like this all weekend too! :D
(And if you believe that I have some nice ocean front property in Arizona I'll sell you for $1,500 an acre!)

:D

When is LTP this year? Probably when I'm in Nova Scotia. :( But maybe not. :)
Do you really want some of that walnut, Bob? I really have more than I need.

LTP is August 19. We moved it to later in the summer because so many people couldn't make it in late July last year.
Thanks for the Walnut offer. I have about as much as I can use right now, unless I get a big Walnut commision.... I'll keep it in mind that you have it tough, it looks like good stuff. Don't forget to stack and sticker it properly!

Doug, it's been air dried inside an unheated barn for 4 years. Eric's moisture meter was reading between 8 and 11 percent. Do I still need to sticker it? It's in the second floor of my garage (unheated).

Joe,

Really gratifying to see that darn peak throat where it's supposed to be. I used to wake up in the middle of the night, wondering, 'Where did we go wrong?' :D

Great 'motor-sailing' today, this wacky weather system is stalled, and sucking the wind away

Good time at the Garrison YC, though...

Joe - this is our first summer with a gaff rig, and I'm trying to learn from this thread...but I'm having trouble following you - so a couple of questions, if I may:

1. in both pictures, the saddle is located at the same spot on the mast. What difference did your adjustment make to it's final resting spot on the mast?

2. From your description, I'm not clear on which part of the sail you are loosening on the gaff and what is 'sliding down', and how you retighten it once the saddle is in it's correct position?

Thanks, Joe! Nanoose
