Well I just bought an old capri C-15. I know that it's not a wooden boat, but it will get me on the water. I have never sailed before and I hope that this fiberglass dinghy will let me learn enough so that I can one day build the wooden boat of my dreams. I plan on taking the ASA 101 class this summer, but until then if anyone in Dallas wants to help a poor newbie out I would greatly appreciate it. Until then, don't make fun of me if you see me on the water, I'm trying.

There used to be a big fleet of C-15's in Georgia. I used to see them when we sailed Windmills at Lake Lanier. Pretty simple boats and probably not too bad a boat to learn on.
Just take your time and don't get discouraged. Even those of us who have done it for 30 years have our bad days (as you will see if you stick around here).
And Happy Birthday to you.

Happy BD, and get out on the water. As mentioned above, don't be discouraged by "learning experiences", equipment failures, etc -- that's why you bought the boat! Just get out on the water and start learning.

After 20 hours it clicks. For some reason 20 hours on the water is the magic figure. Good sailing gloves, I prefer Ronstan gloves but I have Harken (Harken are to sticky) and a good pair of deck boots speed up the process.
A good gift to yourself ... I wish people were so thoughtfull when buying gifts for me.
Warren.
