Captain Pre-Capsize

One of the frustrations is that I cannot afford a boat large enough for the entire family. SWMBO wants to be able to, "get up and walk around..." (And SMBO)

So that has led to me considering joining an existing partnership with three guys that own a ummm... ahem... boat, a fiberglass boat. At over 25 feet with a decent cockpit we all fit and can even have another family along too.

If I do it though I may have to change my moniker - it is a tough beast to capsize.

Never trade a woodenboat for a fiberglass boat.
If you're just adding to the fleet for family enjoyment and comfort, no one can blame you.
May you have many happy times with your family and friends on the water.
Now go and sin no more.

Been there, done that, only in aluminum. We just got in from an evening out with the family on that same boat which included a picnic supper with homemade chicken sandwiches and fresh fruit, a little swimming, and pleasant ride. Whatever it takes to make the bride happy is OK in my book.

Early glass sailboats are a real bargain. Look for decent construction, structural condition and sails. The cosmetics take much more labor than materials to get back up to snuff.

Enjoy.

A good boat is a good boat, regardless of hull material.

On a long horizon, wood is more cost-effective. Wood generally feels better inside though Hinkleys come close. But in your case, partnership appears a superb deal.

G'luck

I am an innocent. Would someone please tell me what SWBMO means? And while we're at it, how about LOL?

Been working well for me for the last couple of years. A good deal for both parties. I think Joe CSOH has done pretty well with a similar arrangement.
