has anybody experience with using solid colours with epoxy?Either by mixing the pigments in or buying ready mixed colours. My boat is epoxied inside and out and I would like to paint the bilges and lockers with epoxy. It seems logical to me but my experience with mixing pigments into the resin has not been very successful.I dont seem to be able to be able to get a full colour. My search through the net for solid colour epoxy paints seems to only lead to floor paints.I also intend to build plywood water tanks which I would also coat with epoxy.Does anyone know if one can make diesel tanks the same way?

There are scantlings for making tanks...depending on how many gazillion gallons that you are trying to hold...and special sealants for the inside. ......for both water and diesel....I will go downstairs later and drag the info up.......how many gallons each do you propose?

Here's a thread on wood/epoxy water and diesel tanks.

Hi WoodenBNUT,thanks for the link.Have you ever used armorpoxy?there is something I don't understand. One one side they call it a one part epoxy, then they describe it as an oil based enamel which one thins with mineral spirit.Any ideas?
On the subject of tanks,I was kind of doubtful about using plywood and epoxy for fuel tanks but was interested in the feed back.I still intend to make the water tanks but will go plastic on the diesel, either off the shelf or custom made.Depends on the price difference.

BoatClassic: The Armorpoxy site says that Marine Armorpoxy is an oil based enamel with specially formulated expoxy resins. No, I haven't used is quite yet. But I was planning on using it as a top coat over my new dynel & epoxy deck. Or, you/we could go with a 2 part LPU paint such as Interlux's Perfection or System 3s 2 part LPU - water based. I will try rolling and tipping rather than spraying because I can't spray in the boatshed that I am in.

Hallo WoodenBNut,Both the products you refered to are 2-part polyurethane. There is no problem to find solid colours in this field. What I am looking for is premixed colours in epoxy, either one or two part. There used to be a choise but it seems that nobody makes it any more.I've tried mixing paste into the resin but it makes for a very patchy finish but I guess I'll have to go that way.
