Has anyone noticed that fine lined boat down at the Port Townsend Marina (on the hard) named Vixen? I noticed her a few days ago and was quite taken with her.

This may be the boat that once belonged to Grant Hoag. If so, it was designed by L. Francis Herreshoff and launched as "Persophone". What is the approximate size and rig of the boat? Can you post a picture?

I dont have a picture, but may be able to get one today. The boat is about 30 feet, looks similar to say a Dark Harbor, only bigger and she has a low cabin trunk with three oval ports on each side. She doesnt look much like a Herreshoff. Really pretty hull, almost like a Universal rule.

No, that is not "Persophone". She is 59' LOA and was first rigged as a yawl. She went aground on the Newport Beach CA jetty back in the late sixties and was damaged extensivly. I have heard that she has been rebuilt but I have no idea as to where she is now.

Vixen is a Rhodes 33 sloop that Adam (from the Northwest Maritime Center Wooden Boat Foundation Chandlery) had shipped up from California.
It seems that there are restoration candidates down there that are looking for homes.
Adam plans to get her sailing so he can have a boat to mess around in while he finishes the restoration of his Alden schooner Revenge.
