Ok,

Haven't posted in a while and some may remember that I was restoring a 1942 22ft Andress Runabout. Good progress but change of plans. My father mentioned some time ago that he always wanted to build, or help build, a boat from the ground up. He was so intrigued by my Oarling project that I thought I would dig around to see what was out there for us.

I looked around and found the Atkin site and others and after looking at all the designs, I kept coming back to Wakeful. Not as much rise in the sheer as the Seabrights, kind of launchy looking, I like the near vertical stem, the outboard rudder, open cockpit and designed for a flathead. Its clean looking. Probably aim to run a low speed Gray in the 40 hp range. The w.oak I can get from the local sawyer. maybe cedar as well. Looking to build as much as possible with wood found locally.

I showed this to my dad and surprise surprise plans show up in the mail! I've got lots of time in life to finish the Andress and other projects, he less so.

So I guess this puts me on notice to start lofting. Here's the link if you are interested.

Of course, any thoughts on the design are welcome. Intended for inland fresh water cruising in the 1000 Islands area of the St. Lawrence River. Mostly stiff chop if the wind comes up.

Regards,

Steve

Nice boat, great designer (I love the Atkins boats). I contemplated the Victor Slocum for a while and bought the Glen-L book on inboard installations for it. Migth be worhtwhile for you as well (unless you've already done inboard of course).

Would look nice with a simple dodger up front, or even a raised coaming, just to help keep the spray out. I wonder if you could spring the sheer up a bit when lofting?

Good luck, have fun.

Dave,

You read my mind. I've actually drawn a coaming on a small profile drawing and it looks pretty good. The dodger is a good idea as well.

Thanks for the thoughts,

Steve
