My gut told me it was time to search for another designer and I found what I was looking for from Chesapeake Marine Design. Now that I have ordered the plans I expect Mr. Parker will be contacting me within the week....because that's the way things usually go.
So... now that the plans are on the way, I guess I really have to clean the garage. Does anybody need an old govt issue type steel desk? and some old bike rims, and......
Just a little fyi: the veritas type of scraper is much harder on the hands than the block plane type, and all scraper blades are hard to sharpen. Been there done that. That was covered in another thread a while ago. just thought I'd add my .02 cents

I looked at their website and only saw a 16' version. Do they offer an 18' also? Still a nice looking CC.

I asked about an 18' and this was the reply I received,
"I have a set of lines for a 18 'version of shoestring that I send along with the 16' upon request. Construction details are the same as the 16' version. Just order the plans and let me know you want the 18' version lines included."
I am afraid that if I build the 16' I'll wish later on that I had an extra 2'.

It works both ways, Chris. Once you build the 18', you'll say "sure would be nice to have a 16' too." No worries, ya can't have too many boats!:D Keep us posted on your build.

I built an 18 footer because I thought I would have the need for the larger boat more of the time, ie., more people going along on outings...but reality dictates you usually end up going out with just one other person (90%or more of the time at least for me) so the 16 footer would have made more sense ...less materials, less weight to haul around, requires smaller motor, ideal for two and their gear;however, I really like my boats size and feel in rougher water...etc...its just a nice stable platform with lots of room.
I liken it to driving my full sized pickup because I don't like the small trucks...so I pay more to drive what I like. I would not want to change to the smaller size unless I had the chance to try the other hull for a real life comparison. I would probably be fine with the 16 footer version but you make an educated choice and your stuck with it unless you decide to build another boat.
Its kinda like sailboats...most folks don't build one for the once or twice a year when they have visitors, they just build what they need for the rest of the time...unless you just prefer and want a larger sized craft for various reasons.
Good luck,
RB

My Dad just sold his 18' Key West, I was on it once. out of the water it looked big, but once in and next to the dock it looked very small. I don't intend to hold large parties on the boat I just want to go fishing. Whether I'm with someone or not. It'll probably be just my son and I most of the time anyway. I will die a happy man if I can tow it down to the Keys once. I don't really care if I catch any fish, of course that would be nice.
I'll be posting pics as I go along as per my Dad's instructions.
