In Gardner's "Building Classic Small Craft", he offers an interpretation of Charles Davis' "Flattie". He makes a number of changes to the original design (e.g., sail plan), but the one I am interested in is the 4 degree deadrise he adds to the bottom. My question, for those of you who know about such things is: What practical difference does it make adding 4 degrees of deadrise to a flat bottom boat? Thanks, Dennis.

i may not be "one who knows", but as i understand, some deadrise compared to a flat bottom, moves the maximum righting moment further out as the boat heels, making the GZ curve less peaky.
