Whew, do I ever feel beat up! (It hurts good, though)

The basics - Using custom-made hole saw, and Big Bertha (an ancient B&D 3/4" drill) I removed three keel bolts before I screwed up the hole saw.
For the gory details: http://home.fiam.net/eeharrow/harrowhtm/28april.htm

I wanna see that customized hole saw!!!
The B&D reminds me of the time that Manuel and Mario did a "waltz around" the drill bit, when we did the deck on the Balclutha.
Hell for stout tools them old B&Ds or so says I.
Oh bye the way, good work......so far. :D

I was going to warn you to rig an, uh....'disabled man'..... switch before you turned into a cartoon, but it's good to hear it didn't beat you up too bad and you're not still spinning around inside Phoenix. :D

Well done Ed. When you get 'em out, what are you going to replace them with? Silicon bronze?

I do not know about a disabled man switch, those old slow turning drills will flip you around three times after you cut them off. just be ready to let go. listen to Finbars instructions.

Ah memories of a Milwaukee Hole Hawg. Good luck keeping your feet on the ground. You might have Finbar latch on to your leg for extra stability.
He's such a grounded sort of guy.

I am gonna post that Manuel and Mario story in Miscellanous for those that might be interested in 'dancing with a B&D'. :D
I had a run in with a B & D once. Big mutha too. It was my first day on a job building a post and beam house. Big green Hemlock timbers. Anyway, the guys on the crew warned me to be careful with the drill (named matilda). The last thing that I wanted to happen on my first day was get thrown by a tool, so I was braced and hanging on tight. The auger bit hit a knot or something, and the drill tried to throw me...I was ready for it, and I ended up shearing the shaft that goes to the chuck! I felt bad about breaking the drill, but I got some respect from the guys on the crew. smile.gif
Ed, good to see you making some progress.

You are a lucky man Ed, if the arbor hadnīt broken that drill might have broken you.

Flexall 454? Sounds like just the ticket. Where do I get it? I'm going to be spending the rest of the week (Tue thru Friday) face-to-face with customers. How does it smell? Will they look at me funny. I'm bringing my bathing suit and will be spending much time in the jacuzzi :D .
Dave, the hole saw is under Finbar's paw, see it poking sort of straight at you, or are you asking for a close up of just the hole saw (which is in surgery as we speak)?
I need a masseuse. :D (I'd even settle for a masseur.)
Geeezus, Noah, you must be one tough SOB. (But if that were true, why the problem cleaning out the keel-bolt ports :D )

ED.......You can get Flexall 454 at the local drug store. It's really good stuff and very powerful. Don't get it in your eyes(or certain nether reigons) and wash your hands afterwards. It's like Ben-Gay only better(and more expensive). Last time I spent the day with a gas powered post hole digger I had to buy the big bottle. A couple of Advils might help too. The jacuzzi couldn't hurt either. :D

Yeah, the keel pockets got the better of me for a few minutes, but only because I was suprized to find them there. On wednesday I'm going back for another try. I'm going to win! This time I'm bringing my big drill, and a masonry bit. Hell, I'm not renting a hammer drill for a lousy 4" of concrete. After getting the cement out, I'm going for the first sail of the season on a friend's Melges 24. Hopefully some good 20 knot downwind runs(the boat, not the wind) will put the will back in me. Nothing like playing with an asymetrical spinnaker to make you feel good.
BTW, a kid on the crew came up and shook my hand after the drill busted. Two weeks before he had suffered a black eye before the drill went off and pulled it's cord out, probably just like yours...I had the advantage of a recently added 6" black iron handle. (plus my ego being the new guy and all)
Do they all have sticky triggers, or is just the ones I mess with?

The switch on mine stuck this time, luckily for me, it stuck off... A couple of squirts of WD-40 and it was as good as new, LOL.
Advil! Egads with my right arm I've been living on the stuff, can't imagine how I can possibly be hurting. (Now don't get me going on THAT medical fiasco...). Kevin, you didn't answer the all important question - does that stuff smell like a perfume factory? I can't be all stinky when out representing the company, LOL. Noah, I still don't know how you did it.
Ed...don't overdo the Advil...it can do a serious hurt on your organs. Alternate it with Tylenol, which is much less harmful. Even perscription doses of Acetaminophen is less harmful (and works great!) than Naproxin Sodium. I weaned myself from Naproxin, and only use it in emergencies now.

Thanks for the advice Don. I tangled once with Advil while stressed out, flu, and grad school got too much. Ended up in the hospital with minimal liver and kidney function. The medicos said it wasn't the Advil, but I've read enough to have my suspicions. Trouble is, it's a much better anti inflamatory than tylenol, and I've got inflamation issues in my right arm (Radial tunnel syndrome if anybody really wants to know, LOL)
Heed Don's words folks, Advil can really turn on you...
And on the original subject - when I get back to the office late, late Fri night, the reworked holesaw should be on my desk. Of course I return the favor with an Irish Soda Bread and coffee for a couple of weeks bribe/payment.

What's your recipe for Irish Soda Bread. SWIMPAL has been using one I got from Alec Davison years ago at A&C? Its pretty good especially if you add 'drunken raisins'* to it.
*drunken raisins: Put about a 1/2 lb of good raisins in a bowl, leave enough room for expansion and cover with Myers Rum or Blackbush Irish Whiskey till swollen.
Tranfer to a jar and put in the back of the refer for about a week or so. Use quantity needed and keep the rest for future soda breads, pound cakes, oatmeal cookies.
Ya get the picture? ;)

I take the generic cheap brand and even then, only when I hurt so bad I can't sleep. A few times a year. Like Donn says "emergencies". Only problem I ever had was upset stomach if I didn't take it with food. I will heed your advise though. The Flexall works best at night while you're sleeping and smells better than most of that kinda stuff. Hey.....If It's good enough for Joe Montana?Right?

Use the rum with the raisins. Any leftovers you can pour over vanilla ice cream. (drool)
