... that was being built by Stevens Boatshop in Chester, NS? I was out on her this morning doing her builder's trials:

All went well; there is the usual small tweaking to be done (packing gland was too tight and got hot, some minor cosmetic issues), but she performed flawlessly. She's nimble, corners well, accelerates and crash-stops beyond my predictions, and is comfortable and dry in a 2-ft chop. All in all, a nice mornings outing for me (unfortunately not so nice for the guy driving the boat - he dropped his hand-held VHF off the end of the mooring dock).

That's a pretty boat, what's her dimensions and what is she powered by?

Really pretty transom and tumblehome.

That is a pretty boat with shear to die for.

She is 26' LOA, 24' LWL, 8'-6" BOA, 2' draft; powered by a 55-hp Yanmar 4-cyl diesel, cruises at 9 kts and maxes out at 12.8 kt. The hull is based on the 1940's-vintage Cape Island boat hull form, but I raised the sheer to give a more secure cockpit and incoporated a flat plank keel (a Cross Island style Cape Islander) so she can stand on her own bottom on a slipway. She is also looking for a good home - she was built on spec.

Really nice job. I sometimes like to think I could turn my hand to designing, you destroy that fantasy.

Are you bringing it to Newport?

MMD,
I just came back from three weeks on Tancook Island, and I spent nearly every day at Butch Heisler's yard right next to Stevens Yard (another story). A few of the oldtimers on the island suggested I poke my head in the boathouse during construction, and I watched as the boat was launched, then checked it out at the dock and from the water. I have to say it's an exceptionally fine job and a finest-kind launch.
