View Full Version : PNW Black Locust Supplier?
For the trunnel refastening of my boat, I am now in search of someplace to get black locust lumber from. I didn't think it would be this hard, but Edensaw, Crosscut, Rockler, Blackstock... all a bust and have no suggestions. :(
Does anybody have any resources in/around Seattle, of the pacific northwest in general, for black locust stock.
I need it for making ~3x3/8" trunnels, so plank or frame quality legnths are not necessary. I really only need roughly 4 BF of 4/4.
Thanks!

I have several short 18"-30" aprox blocks that I'd be happy to trade for some fine PNW beverages.I live just 20 minutes north of the Pacific border crossing.

Hard to beat wood for beer, but did you check with Crosscut?

Yeah, they just looked at me funny. And nothing from Edensaw either.
It seems strange that a wood that grows very well around this area is so hard to find commercially...

Try looking on the Eastside. We have a strong abundance over here, places like Windsor Ply will get it on occasion, or just try a few local sawmills. One in particular that comes to mind is in Chewelah. Otherwise, I know where theres a stand of a couple, I have a chainsaw........

Have you tried Compton Lumber down on 1st Avenue South? Or the Ace Hardware/Home Builder's Center (http://ace.adzmar.com/details.htm?address=&city=&state=&zip=98117&store=6071&lat=47.65482&lon=-122.371239) on Nickerson by the Ballard Bridge?
Both of them carry hardwoods.

Black locust is common in Arkansas...perhaps you can find a hardwood supplier here...try White River Hardwoods http://www.mouldings.com/index.html
