I'm planning to build a few models of Gold Cup racers from the 1920's-30 the old stepped runabout types. I plan on using Mahogany planking which some builders use a thickness from 1/16-1 /8. I 'd like to buy some small quantities of mahogany veneer that perhaps some buiders have left over from a recent build.
If that is not feasible, then perhaps a source for veneer for cold molding.
I have a 14" bandsaw, but the attempts at resawing have been less than satisfactory and after resawing I'd spend $50 to have the material run thru a wide belt sander. I'd rather try and purchase some raw veneer and cut the strips as required.
Any help will be appreciated
Mike

Keep an eye on ebay. I bought some veneers for the same purpose about a year ago.
This might be just what you need:

Rockler Hardware and Woodcraft (there's like one store or another near you or they do mail/web selling as well) both sell veneer in small quantities.
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=2214
Rockler has African Mahogany veneer, unbacked (a lot of veneer has paper backing). 36 ins long x 6 ins sheets run $1.99 per, 36 ins x 10 ins sheets run $2.99 per. The African mahogany comes in either ribbon or plain flavors.
Rockler's likely your best choice.

Thanks to all for the sources. Edensaw has African mahogany for $1.70 sq ft. Sound good to me.
Cheers

Mike, sorry for responding so late to this thread but wanted to tell you to be careful with that ultra-thin veneer if you intend to bond it with West Systems epoxy to a ply substrate per our recent email exchanges. The epoxy will penetrate the veneer if it's around 1/32" thick and you will not be able to stain the model if that's your intent. Of course you could always stain the veneer before planking but just wanted you to know about this possible pitfall.

I just received a piece of 30"x48" crotch mahogany veneer from these folks (unbacked) that came to me as promised..absolutely perfect. ( bit wrinkled, but to be expected for this). Their price was amazingly low, and shipping cost were minimal. Give them a call, ask to speak to Jim..he was fantastic to work with and I got the impression they have all kinds of odd lots.
