Hello I'm new here and green too ! lol
Could I get some suggestions as to where to begin.
I have a 1958 Peterborough Wooden Ply boat and would like to improve her condition. Where should I start ??
Strip, repair, replace, refinish, etc....
Silicon Bronze screws and West Syatem at and below the waterline ?
Thank You in Advance,
Woodie_Pete :D

Can you be more specific as to your concerns/description and/or post photos? Just being old doesn't necessarily mean that we know what needs doing.

Welcome -- you've come to the right place!

I'm no expert, but here are some general recommendations that might help:

Get a marine survey -- helps not only to get a pro's perspective on what is wrong, but may also be required for insurance. You could also try taking her for a repair quote to a nearby boatyard that works on wooden boats.

As Steve said, giving us a LOT more info will produce much better suggestions. The condition of the ply is critical, as is that of the frames. Losing shape (aka hogging) is also common on older ply boats, depending on how they have been supported for storage.

Here's how to post pics here -

First - don't attach photos. Most web forums don't allow it, and space limitations are the main reason why.

Second - Instead of attaching them to a thread, post the pics on the web somewhere. You have a free website area with any paid ISP's email account, or use www.picturetrail.com (http://www.picturetrail.com), http://www.imagestation.com or other free hosting service. Once posted on the web, right-click the image to copy the URL (web address).

Third - once posted on the web, try this procedure:

1. Click the "User CP" link in the browser window in the top left of the menu bar.
2. Click the "Edit Options" link about 1/4 of the way down the left column.
3. In the "Misc Options" at the bottom of the next page, select "Enhanced Interface" from the pulldown list.
4. Once this interface has been selected, in any "Reply" window you can click the "insert photo" icon --> a little yellow square icon with the stamp in the upper right corner, the mountains in the lower center.
5. Once the little dialog box titled "Please enter the URL of your image" comes up, paste the URL of the photo in the field. You can test first by pasting the URL into the window of a web browser.

If you can't get a marine survey done or haven't the funds right now, then at least make a list. Start with the most serious problems and work from there. Be careful to check out what will be affected by the repair. e.g don't replace the window frame if it is attached to a cabin top that needs more repair. When you do the cabin top you will have to remove the new window frames. Point being not to do things twice. Go slow, use quality materials and good tools.

Some years ago I was involved in the restoration of a Luger plywood kit boat. We took our time and chose our projects well. It worked out well and the boat was eventually seaworthy

I had the pleasure of restoring a 1958 Pete a few years back. Your pictures bring back fond memories I wish I had never sold her. Take your time, think things out before you start, seek the advice of the experts on this forum for each step you decide to take. But most of all remember she is a piece of history that needs to be preserved for generations to come. And at the same time provide enjoyment for you and your family.
