I found out about this dory that was going to be burned if some one didnt come and take it away. so i took it and im going to rebuild her .
she was made in Lunenburg Nova Scotia in the 70"s by Loren Allen.
She has pitch pine planking and bottom boards with sawn ribs made from tamarak roots white oak outwhale plywood deaks and cabin teak and mahogany trim. it has a false transome and an outboard well for a 10 to 20 Hp.
she was being converted into a sail boat but the gentalmen that had it got sick went into the hospital then his house was sold and the boat went with the house and the new owner didnt have the skills to repair her or the time and it was in the way for him. Great for me cause i was just looking for another project to work on. her eare some links to a couple pics of herI will be posting her progress i have it mostly srtiped of paint and will be taking of the trim and cabin next.:)

Best of luck! Have you had her surveyed or checked out by a wooden boat yard?

Hi Thorne, no didnt have time to have it checked out but was assured that there was no outstanding monies owed on her i have looked it over and poked all over it and its pretty sound and very accesable from below deaksstem to stern it seams good although ther are a couple splits in planking at the waterline and a small one in the bottom , nothing that cant be fixed im sure .most all the corking has come out so i will just need to clean the rest out and seal the cracks and re corkand calk , just not sure what kind of calk im going to use yet .

(> Donald :)
T he tripod is the only way i could have got her out of where she was and it really worked well the poles are made from balsom fir 7 inched on the but tapering to3 inched on top they are 36 ft long and 3 years old . Im cutting new ones now and the barkwill be striped off and then set up to dry. Thanks for your coments :)

How did you raise the tripod?

When I was at summer camp as a kid, the counselors tried to raise a large tripod to make a watch tower, and even with the help of a truck, could not do it.

Thanks,

Brian

Now that's a St. Pierre Dory. What engine does she have? Hopefully nothing short of a 2 HP one-lunger. Great find and good luck.

Nothing wrong with a good designed cabin on a St.Pierre Dory.

I agree, nothing wrong with that cabin. Its functional and pretty IMO. Better to focus on more critical parts of the boat before we poke too much at the cabin.

Hi Brian , Its verry easy to raise a trypod you lay out the poles so that you have the tops all in the center and all the buts facing outwars in v shape ( >- ) then semi loosely wrape 20 feet of good rope in and out and lastly around them just like a T-Pee then get a 5 foot steplader and raise the center and rest it on the ladder, this is easyer with 2 people. Then grap the pole that is the single one that will push up the other 2 poles in an A frame. If you find that the other 2 poles are sliping back as you raise them just shovle a small hole for them to sit in, but i have never had that problem cause the soil has always been soft enoff. If you find that its really to hard to raise, your rope is to tight , if its to lose it will slip, you can get a ladder and someone else to hold the poles opposit the ladder, then go up and tighten it or wrap another rope around it , and while your up ther you may as well hook on the block and tackle . This method works great. You could also use a Gin Pole method but you need a good anker point and a couple more people.

Hi melee, it doesnt have a engine right now , but it has an outboard moter well and transome it did have at one time a 20 horse , that size was mostly for running the lights it never went more that 8 knots and only could use half throttle , so im planning on going with a 9.9 4 stroke something with a large altenator.

And a whole bunch of pictures on the glen-l site, hit the pictures link at the bottom.

I strongly suggest getting The Dory Book by John Gardner. There are plenty of building notes, modifications, specs and scantlings in there. Definately worthwhile to do some research.

Almost looks Dutch. Interesting rig too. Two masts and a wonderfully simple cabin. The skipper looks happy too. :)
