I would like to find a boat design to go fishing and just putting around boston harbor area. I would like it to be between 17'-20' in length, 5'6"-7'-0" beam, round bilge, small inboard power preferred, about 2'-6"+ freeboard forward with a real sweet sloping sheerline. Speed around 10mph. cold molded construction. Any suggestions and links to website appreciated. I forgot to add I would like a little tumble home towards the stern.
Thanks

well......how about 14 feet, stretchable to 16-18 feet.....7 foot beam, room for small head, cuddy cabin and large fishing cockpit, full displacement for easy motion, 10-15 hp inboard diesel, strip plank construction....maybe increase beam to near 8 footz...

David Stimson builds something similar for an outboard:

Look for the Albury Runabout design under "boat plans". Spec'd for strip plank but can be cold molded too for an even better hull. Some people strip plank and laminate 2 layer over that at 45's. Even better would be 4 layers each at 45 to each other. I could answer more cold molded q's if you have them (learned a lot in a year of boat building training).

Cheers,
Clint

The pulsifer hampton is exactly what I'm looking for. Do they sell plans for it ?

eastern270, I don't know about the plans availability. Another individual you may want to check with is Michael Mason, his login here is mmd. I think he recently designed a boat very similar to the Hapton design.

Let us know what you find out about the Hapton design availability.

Plenty of design choices that roughly fit your description here.

Weston Farmer's "From My Old Boathouse" has several 18 to 25' inboard launch designs from the early 20th century. Most show offsets and minimal to some construction detail. Of course all were built strip or carvel back then but any would be fine for thin veneer cold molding.

Mr. Farmer also has lots of interesting thoughts about fuel efficient low powered boats. He wrote the book in 1974, just after the first 'energy crisis' and speculates how the skyrocketing cost of gasoline will change popular powerboat design. Sadly, he was 100% wrong as we got used to the gas prices and US boat manufacturers continued to produce ever thirstier gas hogs. Maybe sanity will prevail this time.

Now back to the regular thread... I'm building a boat from Farmer's book right now, Coyote II, 25' strip planked 5/8 x 7/8 WRC w/9oz f'glas inside and out. Hull came out nice and fair and this method seems, to me at least, to be less labor intensive than cold molding and producing a very similar hull. You can probably also make your own strips.

Didn't you want a cold molded boat...I don't think you can get plans. But you can buy one. IMHO, you might need to consider the weight difference if you cold molded a design like the P. Hampton.
