Phil,
Wow, I haven't seen that boat in a long time. It went to some friends in Depoe Bay, OR when we moved from there.

The lines were reduced from the 22'- 9" Cape Ann Sailing Dory in Chapelle's American Small Sailing craft. I built her 19' long out of mostly low grade plywood that was lying around.

My main purpose with that boat was to experiment with sail rigs on a basic bank dory. I rigged her as a single sprit, sloop, and cat ketch with centerboard. Although I found the cat ketch to be the most satisfying of the three rigs, I aslo found (or confirmed) that this style boat doesn't sail particularly well - best with a whole lot of ballast for directional stability.

While living on the OR coast I had much more need for a capable boat that my wife and I could double row offshore as well as crab and fish from. The dory served us very well in those areas. I removed the centerboard case and made a small ob well for a 4 hp ob.

Thanks for the blast from the past Phil.

Bill

Thanks, Bill. Those are some of the sweetest lines I've seen on a dory.

Thanks Phil. I liked that this simple bank style dory didn't have excessive rocker to the sheer.

Here's another shot of her along with a buddies Swamscott dory in the same harbour - Depoe Bay. We used the heck out of these boats. A lot of folks thought we were nuts to be out in the big water with these "little rowboats" - Folks with Bayliners and such. Even the USCG would doubt our sanity at times. Hmmph.

Pretty cool to see a picture of your boat on the cover of a magazine when you're out buying groceries at the market.
