Came across this small sloop designed by Starling Burgess recently and it looked like a simpe boat to build and ideal for my needs. Anyone have any experience with this boat?

I believe the Penobscot Marine Museum has one in their collection, formerly owned by E. B. White. Not too far for you to take a look.

Ben? You there?

I have a dim recollection that, in the fifties, they were the entry level kid sailboat of the clubs in Marblehead. The optimists of the period.

The fiftys was the end of their era here. They were indeed the junior racer in Marblehead for many years. I'd have to look at the plans for the design date. I believe the plans are at MIT, with the Hart Nautical Colledtion. Very beamy cat rigged with a slight v bottom and a chine that rises in the bow for entry. Named by the Burgess children after their dog, a great dane.

I have a Brutal Beast I am starting to restore. The plate on it says Hull # 166, Quncy Adams Yacht Yard. I don't have a mast or sails, but the plans were available from Mystic Seaport. I sailed #99 when I was a kid in the early 70's. (It was old then) The boat will sail Very Fast.... but it doesn't like any seas.
