Nice photos. Thanks for sharing sights from a rendezvous of fine open boats. Everybody looks seamanlike with PFD's. Ideal.

It's the Mid Atlantic Small Craft Festival held at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. We were fortunate to see 2 Caledonia Yawls, 2 Coquinas, 2 Marsh Cats, 2 Delaware River Tuckups, etc...

Great shots -- thanks for sharing them! By any chance did you get a shot of the finish on the rowing race? Two guys finished within SIX INCHES of each other.

The other boat in Kaa's second picture is Bob LaVertue's Coquina. Geoff Kerr built the hull of that boat and Dale's Caledonia in addition to his own boat. They came in 1, 2, 3 in the races too.

Steve, I checked over the weekend and didn't find any shots from the actual race, but I do have a few of the boats going out to get ready. I'll try to post them this week.

Cool story about Apple Pie. The tiller is made from a piece of the old keel of the boat from which the lines were taken. Apple Pie was awarded with the Joe Liener Award for best traditional boat built of traditional materials. The WHite Coquina won the "Peoples Choice "award. The big catboat "Lazy Lucy" was built by Scott Hershey of PA and is a work of art. The joinery is first rate.

Great shots, Andrew. I like the one of the "Old Point" and the other museum boats. That last shot of the Caledonia yawl is quite evocative, and the details on "Apple Pie" are amazing. Thanks!

If you look closely at the paddling/rowing shot, on the right to the rear there's a dark colored guideboat with a rower in a red jacket and white cap ... that's me.

I was wondering about that tiller. You can sort of make out the rabbet with the line of old fastenings in it. If anyone is interested in more on Lazy Lucy, here's a link to the builder's site. Many photos to browse.
