Thank you for your patience.
A nice sail from URIs' Bay campus up to Quonset Point. Very good company, good food, and a great day.

http://www.yachtbrandaris.com/images/brandaris.jpg Brandaris has been
afixture in Wickford for aboout 10 years or so.She is used for charters and seal watching watching excursions.Thers was an article in the projo(our local paper)about hte owner and son living aboard .I don't think they do any more though.Got htis off a google search.
The 63-foot Dutch-design Sailing Yacht BRANDARIS is a unique ship type not often seen in American waters. Combining elegant, old-world comfort with capable sailing performance, her unique history showcases a world-class pedigree.
Launched in 1938 as the private yacht of shipyard owner and designer Willian De Vries Lentsch, Jr., Brandaris made history during World War II when she escaped German occupation, and then returned from England to participate in Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of British and Allied forces from Dunkirk in 26 May-4 June, 1940.
Her keelless design with 3 foot draught, immense strength and very broad beam proved invaluable as she packed the troops to the gunwales in their escape from attacking Axis forces.
Builder:
Amsterdam Shipyard, Holland.
LOA: 63', beam: 17.9', sail area: 1317 sq.ft.

That means that she is a "Dunkirk Little Ship" and should be honored as such.

Brandaris is the only botter in the US, I'm pretty sure. She has lots and lots of cousins of many different sizes, mostly made of wood, in the lowlands. This site may still have photos of them there.

Brandaris has a smaller companion, at least I saw it in the boatsheds across the harbor a couple years ago when I went out to find Brandaris. She also was affiliated with one of the chartering companies in Newport.
Brandaris is one cool looking boat.

She is a Dunkirk Little Ship . Has the Plaque to prove it!
BTW, she is actually a "Lemsterak"(sp) , and is named after the "Brandaris" Lighthouse off of Holland.
