Good luck Joe..
It's a buyers market out there. My brother has been trying to sell his boat since last spring.. Not even a nibble.. Then again, I wouldn't want a Hunter....
Wish I could help on someone in Quincy...

I'm not about to go and search posts, but wasn't it some time in the last week or so that you said something to the effect of "I'm done. The next boat I buy will be the liveaboard"? :)
I love the luders 33, though. That and the Rhodes Swiftsure are on my short list for "next (realistic) boat".

Yea I'm a little concerned that the price is so low and the comment about the cockpit being soft. But other then that it has it all. I would like to change the hull color from Robins Egg blue to a darker blue. I hate Robins Egg blue on boats.
But the interior looks good.
Here are some other contenders.

A 33 footer is a luxerious livaboard size!
Damn, you can stand up in the whole boat!!!

My family had a Swiftsure for years. Another family had a Luders 33 and it was faster, though not quite as pretty sheer-wise. Each was built well to good design.
If it would help, Joe, call the broker about the Luders and see if he could meet me on Monday. I'll be down that way and could meet him in the early afternoon. I've got my camera and wife (we're at out son's college 'family weekend) and will be near there anyway.

Soft cockpit? pffft. child's play.
That's quite the range of "other contenders" though. 29' and 39' are two different worlds!

Yup.. Joe.. That is a hefty range size wise... I'm a bit nervous about looking at a 40' footer.... That is about my size limit... and although you have had more hours recently on a boat than I have, I've been on boats since I was gimbeled on the stove in diapers. The Ark was my father's first boat....

Does anyone else question the merits of a deck stepped mast other than the room it offers below? Call me old fashioned but I really don't trust them.
On the other hand I know a ton of people up that way. Are you willing to pay for their time?

You really do" Got It Bad". Remember the equation part .Haul, block, launch, bottom paint, store, line ,moor/slip and the others are all multiplied by the foot per year.I'm in 60 feet deep. But that's one of the reason I've got this Grin on.:D

...and all the others are multiplied exponentially by the foot....
:)
I'm a big fan of using displacement as a guage for cost instead of length.

If the diesel is sound, the boat sounds very reasonably priced.
A mushy cockpit sole or even half the deck is not a deal-breaker, either. That and the other problems of the early glass auxiliaries from Allied, Pearson, Bristol and Tartan were not terribly difficult to fix, and the boats were soundly made and wholesome designs.
To me, these prices for older glass boats look like great bargains. In 2000, I sold a very similar boat for a price which was 50% higher and considerably more than i'd paid for the boat in 1975. They have held value well.
I can't imagine living aboard such a boat through a winter in the northeast, but summer liveaboard would be fine.
Repainting boats like this is another long discussion.
Joe-
I could have a look at the Luders 33 in Wellesley if you like.
Contact me off-list.
A free survey is worthless.

A free survey is worthless.
Im not asking for a survey just a go look see, snap a couple of photos and let me know if its a total waste or worth going and checking it out in person.
I will contact those who have offered offline and thanks.

There's something about the look of the cutter that I really, really like. If it were closer to Michigan, it might be sharing yard space with the Owens.

Hey Joe,
Looks like what I'm looking for. I'm trying to find something with a centerboard though.
I am in Quincy at least once a week.
I'll try to take a ride over there next week. Never mind looking at a boat! I'd consider taking a ride today but it's blowing 30-40 with gusts to 50 and I've got to move my catboat up the river to a storm mooring.
see ya

edit:not that Oriana is a beauty! fibreglass and traditional. But almost 5' draft.....
