We've had two glorious days of calm weather sailing. The water is clear enough to see bottom at for New England's often roiled waters astonishing depths, like three fathoms. And we have all the seasonal birds moving about. Very pleasant to ghost along with nary a motor boat wake to shake the zephyr out of the sail. It was cold enough that both days I broke out my Mustang exposure suit to wear after the sail was up and I was in idle mode. Nothing like being warm in the sun with cold air.

Tomorrow threatens - like fifty knot gusts out of the southwest. Luckily, my winter spot on the town dock opened up so I'm snuggled down at the Ocean Street docks. Nice winter berth.

Hope everyone else in New England is prepared for tomorrow.

G'luck all.

I tightened up the boats and garden. We're ready.

I had to pussyfoot around the boat-hauling barge, which was working the canal all day, parking big lumps of plastic in folks' backyards, but once out on the bay, all was quiet and I had it all to myself. Later in the afternoon, a few penis boats could be heard roaring up and down the bay, burning off fuel in anticipation of the haul. Fortunately, they didn't come out until I was off the water.

Donn, how do you store you big boat during the winter?

She stays in the boathouse, with an engine compartment heater in her belly, and an ice-eater at the entrance to the boathouse if needed. There's room in the slip in the boathouse for all 3 boats which are in the water, so one ice-eater will protect them all.

Really interesting yesterday. Tides haven't been so high since Bob. The spitting rain stings the face as I stood on the beach front in Narragansett bay.
How are things today?

Wild day yesterday on the Cape. I took Redwing out for the season on Thursday. Just in time. Lots of sunk boats in Chatham. How was your night on board Ian?

Can't get much safer than Hyannis Inner Harbor at the Ocean Street dock. 'Bout the only fear would be a 6' surge on top of a spring high tide - unlikely in winter. This Saturday evening's high (c 1700) brought the water to a couple inches over the docks still leaving 4' or so of piling and we were all moored such that even those could go under by a foot or two before stuff would come loose.

It would have been pretty quiet except there were so many of us hanging out that it was really a party, especially after the tide started to drop.
