Just got back from trying to move my boat up the river to my friend's mooring. Figured it would be prudent given the winds forcast for next few days.
Suffice to say that the old outboard which is now (temporarily) powering my Marshall catboat was not up for the job. Started out OK but the wind decided to go from about 20 at the mooring to the predicted 30+ with gusts that had to have been well over 40. Blew so hard and right on the nose that I got blow right around twice. Bumped one boat, slipped most of the overboad but recovered, and almost wiped out the entire catboat fleet of two other boats in one shot. After being spun around the second time, I managed to sail back under bare pole and snag the mooring. Went below, changed my underpants and had a beer.
I guess I should have taken the extra hour last night to do the move but I'll admit, this caught me a bit off guard. Heck of a way to end the season. At least, I hope this ends the season as the boat is under agreement to sell and now all I want is for her to hold on till the buyer can hand over the rest of the money this week. I would prefer at this point to have no further excitement.
I hereby take the pledge(again) to pull whatever boat I may have before Halloween. Ok...by Columbus Day.
