I believe it has been found a fake, but there are plenty of real pics equally gutwrenching....

It's "Nice Shot" by Filter ,I hope they had every thing stowed;) .IIRC they go and train at the mouth of the Columbia river.

I wish I wouldve met you
Now its a little late
What you couldve taught me
I couldve saved some face
They think that your early ending
Was all wrong
For the most part theyre right
But look how they all got strong
Thats why I say hey man nice shot
What a good shot man
A man
Has gun
Hey man
Have fun
Nice shot
Now that the smokes gone
And the air is all clear
Those who were right there
Got a new kind of fear
Youd fight and you were right
But they were just to strong
Theyd stick it in your face
And let you smell what they consider wrong
Thats why I say hey man nice, nice shot
What a good shot man
A man
Has gun
Hey man
Have fun
Nice shot
I wish I wouldve met you
I wish I wouldve met you
Id say
Nice shot[/font]

Training on the Columbia River bar is my guess.

Anybody know about the fuel and lube systems of those USCG boats that will tolerate such 'excursions of attitude'?

No, I don't. Those were the newer 47ft boats. Real pain to hoist to, but apparently good in the surf. :)

The older one were Detroits.

I was wondering if that was exhaust or prop wash that shot out the starboard side of the boat which surfed the wave.

personally I would prefer any of the shots so far in this thread compared to this one.

Not quite the same magnitude... but it reminds me of this shot I took while tall ship sailing...

A couple of shots from our fishing trawlers - taken from the bridge...

This one just to give an idea of how big these boats are... notice the size of the guys next to the trawl net. The bow is about 12 meters - or roughly 40ft high. Then look at the pictures above again...
All these boats are owned by neighbors.

Not a bad weather photo, but probably a bit of a gut wrencher anyway.

Beautiful shots of heavy weather, Lagspiller, and great boat with great people on them....but the last shot just shows what is becoming a real wory: the depletion of the oceans by the greedy fishing boat owners, the amount of destruction these boats are capable of...and when I think that Norway has decided to start the whale hunting again

me too! - I assumed exhaust but don't have a clue.

wouldn't it be nice to have a self righting powerboat  (and someone else to pay for the fuel :D )

Anyone have a link to that old video of the towboat being pulled under the bridge on a river? Great shot of it coming back up and the diesel recovering...

Not going to get into whaling in this thread. But if you do a search on the forum, you will get my opinion on that.

Greedy fishing boat owners is a problem. But only when the fishing isn't regulated properly. Otherwise the comment makes about as much sense as taking a picture of a farmer in the middle of a huge wheat field and a general comment about mis-use of the land.

There are rogue fishing nations. The particular boat you are looking at in the picture is under strict regulation and control. Those are all 'legal' fish.
But as far as pirate fishing or all the boats circumventing regulations you are absolutely right.
Just don't shoot the honest guys. The fellow on the net is MORE worried about the pirates than you are. (Yes, I know him.)

See post #13 on this thread (thanks to Boylesboats). I think that is the event (http://koti.mbnet.fi/~soldier/towboat.htm) you are talking about. Was there a video, all I've ever seen is the photos.

Saw some pretty rough weather when I was in USCG. I didn't work on surf boats, but I was at sea in cutters on some bad days. It was all fun, but I was young.
