I am looking for wood sources in and around southern Alabama. I need both frame and planking stock: Atlantic white cedar, longleaf pine, white oak, etc..
I am also looking for a source for marine plywood if anyone can help.
I do not live far from New Orleans.

I've been here in Houston (plywood and dimensioned lumber): http://www.clarkshardwoodlumberco.com/default.htm

and also to this in Scottsboro (dimensioned lumber - and some plywood):
http://www.hardwoodcenter.com/

Both have good selections of mahogany, ash, teak, and white oak.

Marine ply you'll have to get from a lumber yard, but the best white oak we got came from two sawmills in North Alabama - H & K Sawmill, Inc. - 256-837-3633 and Davis Logging and Millwork - 256-230-3019. (4+ years ago, no warranties express or implied as to whether phone numbers are still good ;))

They're both in North Alabama, but both were found by my husband driving the back roads and following logging trucks. Seriously. While I was visiting with my folks, Dave took off in the van we'd rented for the occasion, went into the local co-op and just started asking around, driving around, etc. When he'd see some logging activity, he'd stop, walk over and "make nice."

We ended up taking all but one seat out of the van and if he'd bought another board foot, the dog and I would have been strapped to the luggage rack. :D

I do need to find those pictures. :D In one the freaking back end of the van is about 2" off the tires. I couldn't believe we didn't get stopped, but then again, driving north out of Florida with a loaded trunk/van is what normally gets folks arrested. ;)

Margo said it but all of the wood you want grows on trees right there in Alabama
