Hi Everyone,

A while back MMD posted an article on making a compass rose.

Well - I just want all of you people who post the How-To's that some of us out here do them and use your advice.
Thank you for your contributions!

This is my first ever attempt at veneer work. The compass rose itself came out pretty good for a first try I think - I wish the the inlay went a little bit better.

But overall I'm happy with the job..

And let me just say that the Biscayne 22 is looking mighty fine.

Beautiful job!

I took a course at the North Bennet Street School (http://nbss.org/) in Boston's North End with a fantastic craftsman named Janet Collins. I thought of her when I saw this post, because she loves making compass roses:

She's pretty amazing. If I wanted to do an inlay, vs a veneer, I'd definitely take her course on it. ;)

Speaking of compasses, there's a store here in Savannah called Compass Prints. They have two books of Ray Ellis prints, one called 'North by Northeast' and another called 'South by Southeast'. See http://www.rayellis.com/books.html . I tried to explain that there are no points on the compass by that name, but found that I had to back up and explain what compass points were to the staff. They were interested and got a good chuckle out of it.
