The past few weeks have been rather poor weather for outside work, although I have done some outside work I've spent some time in the warm dry shop doing some metal work. I made the 1"-8 lock and acorn nuts for the prop shaft and also the parts for the stasil boom swivel. The retangular block has nylon bushings in the holes, the thrust washers are also nylon the other parts are machined out of a couple of used prop shafts.

Here is the swivel assembled. This swivel will be bolted through the bow sprit, note the large washers are machined with a 3.5" radius to match the sprit rather than putting flats on the wood where it will be located. I still have to make the plates which will bolt on the boom and join this assembly with the clevis pin. I don't have material for them right now.

Looks really nice Ken. Its a component that takes a lot of shock loading. I watch my staysail boom smacking over on a run. The staysail gets into the lee of the main and gybes itself to goosewing.. stays there for a while and invariably on a roll or in a lull it'll centre and fly out to be in the lee again. etc.

Looks good! And definately good things to do this past week. The way the wind blew here it was not so cold with my winter get up on, but it was LOUD.

Ken
My starbord knee is pretty much shot (the one in my leg, not in my boat). Any chance you can work up a replacement part?

Curt, that's something I'm not familiar with, ah but my brother has made those knees and a whole bunch of other mechanical body parts, and surgury tools ;) .

Very nice Ken smile.gif Are they machined castings or from solid ?
ps I've finally bought a lathe 12"x30"bc to go with my milldrill and foundry . Now all I've got to do is learn how to drive it

Peter, all machined from solid.
Lathe lesson 1 and never forget. Put a hook on or close to the lathe for the chuck key. There is ONLY 2 places for that key 1st place is on the hook, the 2nd place is in your hand. NEVER remove your hand from it unless it is on the storage hook.
