Having just launched my 33ft cutter last SeptemberI find that the sea water rinse pump to the galley sink becomes putrid as it is not used very often.
Have I missed somthing or is this a common problem

Common problem, but as I don't use a saltwater sink pump, I've only noticed it in the head pump. In the head I have either put up with it, or put a dollop of bleach in the head bowl. That at least takes care of the problem from the standing saltwater in the bowl. Don't know how you'd deal with the problem inside the pump, unles you cared to go to the hassle of disconnecting the pump hose, sticking it in a bucket of vodka, pumping til the pump body was full, then reconnecting the hose. Of course you'd want to be certain whatever poison you used would not harm the pump flapper, o-rings, etc.
