Love and War has won the Sydney Hobart race on handicap for the third time (an equal record).

Pity about the loss of Koomooloo - a fine old woodie.

Yep - she first won in '74 but still beat a couple of Volvo 70s and two 98' maxis (one of each lost their sticks)

The Hobart is a strange beast. Wasn't it won by a concrete boat once?

Hwyl, Helsal from the US. Helsal won line honours back in the 1980's.

It was a big year this year for inland sailors in the race.

Love and War this year was sailed by the crew off the ACT yacht Brindabella. Gillawa from the ACT was running 2nd on PHS and broke a steering cable 100 miles from the finish. Gillawa finished 5th on PHS.

Dave Kent Skipper of Gillawa shouted the bar in Hobart after setting a race record ... Gillawa has been the last boat to finish in the last three Sydney to Hobarts.

Warren.

Not quite, mate - the original Helsal set a race record in 1973 and was and Aussie boat owned by Dr Tony Fisher. I was offered a crew spot on her in '76 on a run from Coffs Harbour to Sydney - but declined as I would have missed my 21st birthday party. She got about 70 miles south of Coffs and the forestay broke and she had to return for repairs. I seem to recall that they managed to keep the stick up.

She was fondly known as the Floating Footpath.
