I sent a proposal in to Matt to see if they would be interested in talking to my friend Kevin Durkin about the two Dragons that he is restoring, 'Williwaw' and 'Weetamoe'. Both of these 60's era woodies are being put back into racing condition by Kevin and his family at their home near Waco.
Both of these boats have great histories, but of course with 'Williwaw' being an ex-Olympic gold medal winning boat (1968), and also one of the first two boats to ever be rigged with Harken blocks (the other was Lowell North's gold medal winning Star), I thought that this would make a great story for the magazine. Wouldn't hurt our class to get a little publicity in North America, either, especially for those who own and are working to restore wooden Dragons.
One other thing this morning: if you look at the 'classifieds' on the WBM page, you'll see that the most popular ad is for Tim's Dragon for sale in New Jersey. That tells me that there is interest out there and that is a good thing. I have a feeling that things are beginning to stir just a little. The future might be interesting around here.
