Ferry disasters

There's been (at least) two ferry disasters in Indonesia this last week. Not sure about the first one - but over 500 reported dead / missing in the second.

There must be a great many passenger ferries in that country in a wide range of seaworthyness. I wonder how they are regulated and inspected .

200 rescued - 400 missing. The article doesn't include the photo that was in The Australian today - a group of survivors floating in an idylic tropical sea.

Two ferries lost in two days and now the Indonesians are looking for 102 people in a missing plane. Methinks they are getting a bit careless.

Our ferries in Washington State are reasonably safe. They are also considered a top target of terrorists. There have been several known terrorists seen filming the layout of the ferries and taking notes.
