I was wondering if anyone has any information on Tancook boats, builders or anything else concerning the subject. Also any info on any other kind of working craft from Nova Scotia's South Shore.

OK,
You may want to start with Howard Chapelle's "American Small Sailing Craft" and "American Fishing Schooners." I would also recommend "The Tancook Whalers" (Origins, Rediscovry, and Revival) by Robert C. Post from the Maine Maritime Museum, 1985.
That my upshot for starters. I know that there happens to be some well versed boatophiles living in N.S. who post frequently on this forum also; you are in luck!

I find 'abebooks.com' is about the best for rare/odd/out-print stuff. Amazon tries and I use them always but for nautical minutiae 'abe' takes the cake.

The Tancook Schooners: An Island and Its Boats (ISBN: 0773511725)
Facing the Open Sea: The People of Big Tancook Island (ISBN: 1551091208)
Tancook Whalers: Origins, Rediscovery and Revival (ISBN: 0937410055)
So, GB, what is it in particular that you would like to know? You do realize, don't you, that you are living in the cradle of that knowledge and that precious few books have been written on the subject. Go down to Stevens Boat Shop on the Back Harbour and talk to the old "hang-arounds" - they are probably experienced in the Tancook boats. Go next door to the Stevens shop and talk to Butch Heiseler - just don't let him bite your head off. Ask to see Murray Stevens out on Second Penninsula or Cecil Heisler in Indian Point. Another good source is Billy Lutwick out on Indian Point. All these guys are the living history of these boats. Ain't no book gonna give you the education that these guys can.
So what do you want to know?

You might try David Westergard in Tusket, well Surrette's Island actually. Wooden Boat did an article on his work with Tancook Whalers and Schooners last year, his phone number is in the classifieds of a few issues offering Hackmatack knees and stock.
