Tim, I see you are on the other coast and am not sure if you were able to see two recent launches of 17-1/2's. The Apprentice Shop in Rockland and Alec Brainerd of Artisan Boatworks launched this past year. I believe the one from the Apprentice shop is named Stargazer, and Alec's is Phoenix. Alec is a great guy and does amazing work. He is currently restoring another, named Tiger. Look for that one soon. The folks at the apprenticeshop were also very friendly and helpful.
As I am in the middle of a restoration of a 17-1/2, I've made an effort to seek out as much as I can as well. The boat I am working on is Auk. The boat was most recently sailed by William Hamlen out of North Haven. If anyone has more information, I'd appreciate it.

Here are some shots of the boat the Apprentice Shop worked on...

Interesting boat...not sure what it is though, I believe the Northeast Harbor A 's had bolt on steel fin keels and that boat doesnt appear to have one. And both the DH 17's and A's were around 28 feet. That one is 24'

Thanx for the pictures Andrew :-)

I think the DH 17 is one of the most beautiful boats ever designed.
Pretty rare in these parts though.
One of these days I am either going to have to build one or have one shipped over to this coast :-)

Chip Flanagan will build you his version, the Dark Harbor 15, for a mere $65,000.

A beautiful adaptation. I've spent many hours admiring the WB phots and Chip's site.
