I'm looking at building Bolger's Holloween utility boat and I've sent a letter to him and his associate last week requesting information as to if he has a full set of plans for that boat. I'm not sure when I'll get a response, but I thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone has suggestions on this design, or if there is another design I might want to look at. I would appreciate any response.
I live in Post Falls, Idaho and plan to use the boat on Lake Coeur d'Alene for fishing and intertainment. The water can be choppy at times and windy.
Thanks

There is a very active Bolger forum at:

You may want to inquire there as well.

I just spoke with P. Bolger and he is sending me a couple other designs that would work better. (He designed the Halloween quite a few years ago). It would have been nice if I had became more proficient in AutoCad or ProE. Lofting (?) the side planks will be a challenge for me. PailC: Thanks for locating the site for me.

I corresponded with Mr Bolger several years ago about Halloween after seeing the pictures of it in the Bolger article in Nautical Quarterly. The owner raved about what a great boat it was for the Chesepeake Bay. Bolger said the Halloween ran bow high at speed (due to the upswept buttocks) and needed trim tabs. He also said the owner didn't really like the boat as much as he told the NQ writer!
He recommended his "Fisherman's Launch" (in 'Boats With An Open Mind') which has the V bottom carried all the way aft.
I really liked the Halloween's interior layout and copied the idea for my current boat.

JR, Im building a Mertens NINA over here in Spokane (Ninemile Falls, actually). The boat has some Halloweenlike features. Your welcome to check out the blog and also welcome to come see the construction in the flesh if you like. Id love to have a look at those plans just for information's sake, esp how Bolger designed the windshied to be built as its the same one that will be on my boat.
