i'm looking for w. oak timbers for the backbone construction (24'-7" cutter). i've talked to a couple local mills (in WI) and they said they can not provide timbers in the dimensions that i need. especially if i need it with out a boxed heart. some of the dimensions are 6x12, 7x18, 9x12, 8x12, 12x18.
any one know of a good source for w. oak timbers ? great if in WI, MN, or MI area.
i've heard about using purpleheart for backbone timbers, any thoughts on that.

I found this place in Freeport, Mich that says they can custom cut to most any dimension. I found another close by so I didn't use them, but here's a link.

You might try this sight. I was able to get exactly the oak I needed last year. Its a crapshoot, but sometime it works.
