the ozark jonboat i found at http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/periodicals/bittersweet/wi73b.htm
as per my other posts , i decided to increase the beam . here is what i did for my second model and this may be the one i build unless some of you engineer types spot something unsafe .
instead of 1 x 12 planks i will use yellow pine 1 x 16 " planking for the sides .i will plane all hull material to 1/2" thick
the length will stay at 16 feet
the center beam of the boat will be 48" at the shear and 36" at the chine
the transom will be 34" at the shear and 30" at the chine
i will keep the transoms at 8" in highth this will give me ample rocker to keep the transoms out of the water .
the finished hull weight will be 228 lbs .
my scale model drafted 6" deep with a 570 lb load and the waterline measured 10' long . i am sure this is not an accurate representation of real life , but it is what i came up with . and no , i have no intintion of carrieing 570 lbs . but thats what it took to sink the hull to the 6" mark .
i will use a 50lb thrust trolling motor for power .
how can i calculate the speed i will get with this setup ?
how can i relate this to the river i plan to fish . can i calculate current speed / boat speed to see if i can go upstream with this boat/motor combination ?
why do i want to do this , this way ?
i have everything in my shop to do this boat , all i have to purchase is some dolphinite or equivilant and some ring nails . plus i am a bit crazy.
or unique . also , i don't portage here without a trailer and a truck .
thanks again
