Now that DISCOVERY is finished, delivered, accepted and commissioned, we are putting our full attention on BOUNTY. She has been on the railway here at Boothbay Harbor Shipyard since last May, and is being reframed, planked and caulked from waterline to rail. Also new transom frame and transom, new stem, bulwarks, covering boards, caprails. We have 45 shipwrights working towards a May launching. To give an ideal of the scale of things, we are replacing just about exactly 1 nautical mile of 3" planking. The work is proceeding at a pace akin to the "old days" and it is quite an experience to be a part of it. I am leading the caulking crew, which has 2 miles of seams to caulk, since we are redoing the bottom seams too. Anyone who would like a tour is welcome to get in touch by email - davidstimson@gwi.net

Scary when you start measuring materials by the mile -- but is that a standard or nautical mile? <--joke!

Best of luck, please post pics when you can.

I am up and down the coast a lot for work, and have stopped by to look on several occasions. When my 4 1/2yo son is with me on these trips he insists we stop to see the "pirate ship".

I suppose this is the one that I toured in St.Pete a long time ago.

Modern age traditional shipwrights. Amazing.

A wonderful ship I toured a few summers ago.
Here she is heading out to a Lake Erie sunset from the Black River in Lorain,Ohio.
Take good care of her fella's.
