This guy was paid $301,000 per year and still had to steal!

Things here in Pennsylvania are starting to look bad for public service.

The legislature had to repeal an illegal pay raise they gave themselves. Some staffers were being paid more than the legislators and getting illegal bonuses.

The governor created a CEO for the liquor control board with a $150,000 per year salary, when the board's chairman made only $65,000 per year and was actually doing a good job keeping the state stores profitable and reasonably well stocked with some quality wines.

Seems like he got away with it for a very long time. Assuming he's guilty, if no complicity existed on the museum's board of directors, then they certainly had to have at the least been negligent in their oversight responsibilities.

There was a WoodenBoat article about, boats and business. Quite a few years ago. They focused on one boat; "The Principia" and I remember thinking "hocus pocus".

From the article One yacht, the Principia, was sold at a loss in 1999.

Donno what he was really up to. He's been involved (no pay) with the little museum we're starting in Hyannis, to all reports quite productivly.

He was in charge of the Maine Maritime Museum before going to Philly.

The suit said he also used a museum credit card to pay $1,315 to a sailmaker, saying it was an Enticer expense - "even though Enticer does not have sails."



But ENTICER does have FABRIC needs.... Awnings, etc...


The other, the 85-foot Enticer, was sold last year for $1.9 million - after Carter's departure.

I worked in a yard in the early 80's that did some work on ENTICER which, at the time was owned by some guy in CT. Often wondered what happened to her. Trumpy built just like SEQUOIA, only 19 feet shorter. And to my eye, prettier.

Hm. I got to know John fairly well when I was an apprentice at the MMM. He was kind to me. He put the museum lawyer's letterhead in my hands when I needed to intimidate an insurance company into paying what they owed.

Gawd, three big ones to run a museum?

I hope the allegations aren't true. A rather likable chap in a Kennedy-esque preppy sort of way.
