well, back to work, and back to working on the thistle.
some time ago i read about using (not-using) steel wool between coats of varnish; has to do with rusting bits of wool that invariably get caught on deck, etc.
i have a "chore boy" copper pot scrubber. is that what i recall others are using?
had a great time hiking the smoky mtn national park in search of trout on the fly. think it'll become an annual thing....

A 3M pad works well.

Since you drive up through Georgia , take note of the Cohutta Wilderness Area .Two trout streams flow out of there .If you're willing to walk , I'd suggest the Conasauga River trail .I've been hip deep in crystalline water while fording that river ;looked to the side and saw 5 good sized fish . There's trout in them thar hills .

About 20 years ago I saw the biggest trout Ive ever seen in the Conasauga just downstream from where the Tearbritches trail comes to the river. We spent three days throwing everything we had at that fish who blithely ignored our efforts. It had to be at least 24" long, which was a monster compared to the 8-10" hatchery fish we were used to catching. Then one afternoon the river flooded after a big thunderstorm and that beautiful fish moved on.
