I am replacing some futtocks on the double sawn frames in my 40' ketch with white oak. What (if anything) should I use as a bedding compound between

- the frame and the planking
- the futtocks at the butt
- the "sister" frames

I plan on painting the futtocks with red lead before installing them.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Nothing, but the paint is a good idea.

All of my faying surfaces in my boat were coated with red lead and then covered with a thin layer of non-adhesive bedding compound. This helps to ensure there is no air in there where water might creep.

Interlux "boatyard bedding compound" works great as does Dolphinite if you can find it.

- the frame and the planking I use Dolfinite

- the futtocks at the butt, and the "sister" frames I would use 5200 or PL adhesive.
