Hi, can anyone recommend a boatyard in the Tampa area. I am looking for low key, not fancy, and inexpensive and the ability to do my own work. I realise that this may not be realistic but what have you got that comes close ?
Thanks
Mike

Mike,
I may be looking for exactly the same thing in the Tampa area sometime soon. Have you had any luck?
Here's a link to some photos of the boat my wife and I are restoring, which is now in Galveston, Texas: http://s153.photobucket.com/albums/s234/kdv0707/CHANCE%20Jan%2007/
All the best with your search.

Kurt, no responses so far and I haven't found anything interesting.
That's a great looking boat you've got there.

There is one that I know of that is on the Alafai River in Gibsonton. It is right off of Highway 41 just south of Tampa. I will see if I remember to ask the name of it or if it is still in business. I mounted a tower on a 40+ft Gulfstream there some time back and that guy was doing his own work as were several other boats.
This might be the place:

Many thanks.
Mike--Here's a yard I stumbled across on the internet: http://www.jeanstreetshipyard.com/. I don't know anyone with first-hand knowledge of the place, but it looks interesting. I thought I might put CHANCE there until I'm ready to rig and sail her (lots of work to be done below decks, including an electrical system and engine).

Try Snead Island, just south of Tampa Bay in Palmetto. I think they will let you do your own work, plus they are capable of just about everything.
