Hello,
Does anyone know if Island Oars still does business in the Nanaimo area of BC, Canada? I have tried the phone number on the website and it is disconnected. Also, emailed with no response.
I am looking for 9ft spoon blade oars. I have also tried Van Fancy Oars and Paddles on the east coast, but have not been able to speak to anyone.
Any info helpful,
Thanks Steve

Did you mean Milton Fancy Oar & Paddle Construction here in Nova Scotia, or somebody else?
Actually Michael, Milton passed away last summer and the business now belongs to his son and that's the new name. Steve, did you try their website at http://fancyoars-paddles.com/?

I just picked up some 7'6" oars and some spars from Van this week. his # is 902 624-9166. He has been very busy but made up the spars for a Peapod and a Pooduck Skiff I am building in my shop for me in about 2 weeks. Give him a call during the day.

Thanks guys,
I'll keep trying Van. I have been to their website and it appeared that the longer oars were not in stock, so I was looking to chat with someone about ordering some.
Hopefully, someone can chime in on Island Oars. Based on the website, the guy seems to take great pride in his work.
Appreciate the feedaback, thanks,
Steve
Thanks for the correction, HR. I knew that Milton had passed away and the his son had taken over the business, but I hadn'd realized that he had changed the company name.
Sorry for the confusion...

Thanks Stephen,
I've order from Barkley Sound in the past and recieved some nice 8ft flat blade oars. Nice product at a good price. Their product line for flat and spoon blade rowing oars stops at 8ft. Beyond that lenght, Barkley offers flat blade driftboat oars.
Here is the website I found for Island Oars. Paul Bagshaw is the the contact.

Tendercraft in Toronto also has a good array of oars which I may look into as well.
Thanks,
Steve
Did you also know that our hosts published an article on how to make spoon oars in Issue 117?
