As spring teases us here in New England, I stop by where the sailboat sits on her trailer, test the saturated ground and look forward to when I'll haul her out and work the list to get ready for launch.

The list isn't that long, but it will take time to complete: install a drainplug, paint the bottom, bed new jib tracks and halyard winches, prepare a new mast collar, etc.

Jamie stopped by on his way south after his weeks of work on Airlie in NS. He had a long list of things to accomplish aboard her and ashore back in Maryland before moving aboard and sailing south. I've only seen the pictures of Airlie he posted here and hope he will post more if he can... but no pressure.

On the thread about the Woodenboat Show tickets I see he plans to be at the show aboard her.

I'm looking forward to the day he sails in here and takes a mooring, but I want him to be aboard a well-found and safe boat. I worry that Jamie may be rushing things and setting expectations that may be unattainable. I hope he will stay in NS for the summer if it takes longer than he expects to fit out Airlie. I'd hate to think he'll rush things in order to meet some artificial deadline of reaching south by a certain date. I doubt any of us want to see him get in 'trouble' either at sea or by getting overstressed in a rushed and uncomfortable living or working situation.

I'm not trying to start anything here... just thinking 'out loud'.

the progress as much as I should, but I was under the impression that the yard was making Herculean progress?

I would assume (by what Jamie has posted) that if there is still things to be done by the launch deadline they will be items associated with creature comforts and not related to the safety of the boat. The boat shop working on Airlie is not notch and highly respected (very old school).

Dave..
I thank you for your post/fears.
Believe me.. I am too old to take chances. I think my todo with a leak in Uncas last summer should confirm that and why I ended up driving.. That is why I had her pulled out etc..etc... etc.
and Allan is right. Getting Airlie together is going well. Creature comforts are gonna be the issues I will be working on. It is one thing to think that what I am doing on the interior is gonna be perfect. However, the cake mix before baking is just the cake mix.. or "proof in the pudding " is gonna be actually living aboard.
But again, thanks.

By my count there are 91 days to the WoodenBoat Show in Mystic. When you take out weekends and holidays, that leaves 63 days. Throw into the mix a yard full of boats to be relaunched and the fact that today it is about 32F with a 25kt wind. The flip side is that July is very nice up here in NS.

Ted.. I too am counting. I also have to be careful staying in NS.. Every bill I get has a substantial add on.. taxes paid. If I stay in NS too long... I won't have any chance at all at getting that back.
Having added up the amount to date, it would pay slip fees for a year and insurance. A hefty amount.
But your point is well taken.
Actually, I think the major hump has been climbed over.. Could be wrong. Have been before.

Jaime,
I believe that the visitor tax rebate expires April 1 so any taxes paid after that date (it might be April 30) would not qualify. At 14% on everything it certainly adds up. A lot of the delays up here are because of weather. It is too cold to paint/varnish, and if you paint too early, it looks like hell by mid summer. As we have discussed before, I hope it all works out. Give me a call when you can.

Ted.. you are more up to date on this than I am. I have asked and have been told that I have a year to apply for a refund. But, another story.
It is hard enough trying to figure out what is going on in the US without having to go across a border.
All I can see down the road is that this change is gonna cost Canadians some money as people will go elsewhere to visit, or have work done.. as in work on a boat.
And then the US will follow suit and not give the taxes paid on items bought in Kittery,ME. at one of those outlets.
Yup.. smart.. really smart.
I'll call..
