I noted that under my name I am listed as 'Junior Member', others are 'Senior Members' etc.
What are the rankings?
Is there a list somewhere?
How does one get 'promoted' from one to the other?

You basically promote yourself.. When you join, you are automatically a junior member...
I changed mine to read " ancient " but that is because I am.

:confused:Self promotion, under the "User CP" button to the top left of your screen.
I'm fond of being a recalcitrant heretic, but others are more colourful, and more fickle.
BTW, welcome!

The ranking came about most recently a few years ago when they moved to another web forum software package. All those who were members before the conversion date automatically became "senior members", those joining afterwards are "junior members".

...um...

I gather the new keyboard went in without a hitch.
I think you turn Senior after a certain number of posts, maybe 50. You've changed it anyway.
Seeing you're from St Kitts, you really ought to be building a 12 Metre.
Your island has produced (a little obliquely) some of my favourite singers.

welcome aboard.....and with just a push of a few buttons you can become a "Senior Senior Member"....I considered "Sexy Senior Citizen" but someone remarked something about "Dirty Old Man" so I changed my mind.....:D

Seeing you're from St Kitts, you really ought to be building a 12 Metre. I started with a single sheet skiff. I built four.
I wanted a bit more of a challeenge hence the P17.
I could build a six metre (at least one was built here).
Quite a few catamarans have been =built here.
In addition "St.Kitts St.Kitts" an areo rig with a swing keel was built here in 1992 - a boat that broke new ground which was only covered again in 2004 when the canting keel twins Pyewacket and Morning Glory came to St Maarten to race.
Then Philip Walwyn built the 1906 first rule twelve metre KATE, which I have had the privilage of sailing in two regattas so far. I on the other hand do not have the 20,000 man hours (or money) to construct one. I'd love to though.
Philipb would build you one or a larger one. :)

Insert jealous picture here. I'm hoping to be in Antigua for race week, then Simpson Bae, I hope to see Kate

Kate should (God willing) be in Antigua for the Race week.
http://www.sailingweek.com/imc/entries.php see entry # 10.
Unfortunately (for me) I shall not be on Kate as she has a full charter.
Due to other circumstances will I not be there. :(
Do go and say Hi to Philip Walwyn who will be on Kate.

At my forum, I have a ranking system..
Works like this:
When first joined - cabin boy
after 5 posting - Seaman recruit
after 25 postings - Seaman
after 100 postings - Petty Officer
after 200 postings - Commander
after 500 postings - Captain
after 1000 postngs - Admiral
then after 2000 postings - Fleet Admiral...
The ranking name cannot be altered by user (member)... Wonder why the powers-that-be here didn't use a similar system?
How do I find your forum?

Boyle's ranking system reminds me too much of a frequent flier program. Ughh... Commercial airlines

I like the fact that this forum doesn't reward number of posts. I always felt that is a false indication of the value of what someone is saying.
(says the person with less than 200 posts ;) )

I was on a freedive forum for a while that had members give "ranking" to other members on the helpfulness of their posts. It made it so that a "newbie" would know who to "trust" and who to take with a grain of salt. I think it helped keep people on topic and kept them from posting less researched and therebye, dangerous information.
