We have to cut short our cruise:mad:
We might be pushing it but we'll go home tomorrow early o dark just in front of it with a bit of luck. Frustrating. Sitting here at the bottom end of Waiheke island in glass right now, warm. Just our boats ( 4 of them) in the bay. Lovely sandy beach.
Ah well. make the best of it eh.
Riada has been going well, a couple of 25 or 30 mile passages with the mizzen staysail set. Man what a sail that is. Talk about pull.
We set the gennaker for about 1/2 an hour before we got a crisis of the expletive kind. Its about 850 ft from what I can see and the big primaries didn't like the smaller sheet diameter. It gobbled it and jammed into the self tailing mechanism .I rigged a handy billy to take the sheet tension but still couldn't get it free so we ran off and dropped it. I had to dismantle the feeder off the winch to get the sheet free.
ah well.you get stuff like that when its all new.LOL.

John, I hope the forecast is right this time and that you don't cut your trip short unnecessarily. We had a great weekend down in Man of War Bay and Picnic Bay in magic conditions just like today. Even caught a few fish. Couldn't afford to take any more time off work to extend the trip though.
Even newish boats have problems.

We did the right thing in the end ,and came home last night. Got in about 8. and that was interesting... never been in here in the dark before, it has pole lights and leading lights for the 40 ft wide channel in ,but with all the marina lights in the background it required a lot of concentration. Anyway, it started howling sometime this a.m. and is downright mean and miserable out there now.If it was just a day or so of crap we'd stay out but it sounds like it's in for 3 or 4:rolleyes:
