Has anyone done any sailing in this little body of water? The maptech chart I have doesn't show any depth infomation.

What I could find online was also pretty uninformative, but look at the top one, a "before hurricane" shot to see how shallow it is -

And Google Earth doesn't really show the depth, but the colors sure make it look shallow, particularly in a few spots that run nearly all the way across the lagoon.

If the maptech chart is accurate, it is really shallow.

Did you try looking for charts here: http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/ ?

I tried that link, but the NOAA ENC Direct to GIS charts didn't show any depth in the lagoon.

Did you find a chart of the lagoon that shows depth?

Not a whit. What kind of boat are we talking about?

Yup that's the one. She draws about 3 and a half feet. I understand theres a public ramp now from Rt 180. We looked at mapquest satalite last night. It seems to be the same pic you posted Thorne . . . .Anyway, we might try it this weekend if the weather cooperates. Up our way in ATL it's forcast to be crappy.

This is "nearby," I believe. Scott Williams regularly goes sailing and overnighting to small islands off the Mississippi coast on his small Wharram: a tiki 21.

Here's his blog with photos and videos:

I just talked to an officer at Alabama district IV headquaters. He seemed to think that it was barely 3 feet deep anywhere in there. Gulf Shores PD wasn't sure if the ramp off of RT 180, where Moe's used to be, is even open yet. Lot's of ifs and the weather looks like a big if. Thanks for your input guys.

Sailing in Wolf's Bay, Perdido Bay, or on the other side in Oyster Bay or Bon Secour Bay are all cool. The only question I have about the lagoons (Big and Little) is that right after Ivan the boat traffic was either restricted or closed completely because of all of the debris (aka, people's houses that had floated off). And then we had Katrina in 2005. I am just not sure that the debris has all been removed.

I would check with the Gulf Shores Chamber of Commerce, or the Alabama Marine Police before I went charging off into Little Lagoon.
