Picturetrail.com since 1998. Costs 45 bucks a year, but they are pros. I always have easy access and so do my guests. Having literally hundreds of photos out there linkied to articles and stories often viewed hundreds of times weekly, it's important to me to only have to establish those links once and be able to forget about them. It wasn't like that with the free photo hosting services.

I second PictureTrail.

My service is about $20 USD since I am not as prolific as O&O PacNoWest.;)

Thank you so far

Bob, Dave -makes great sense, I am looking to post quite a few photos and don't mind spending for the ease of access. Do your guests need to register?

I understand about free but . . .

Every time you look at one of my replies here that has photos in it, you become a guest on my picture hosting service as well as WBM's forum server. Many of my pictures get over 2000 visits a year. It's how I learn ahead of time which articles will sell the quickest.

Ah yes, of course, now I see. Very clever of you Bob, very clever. Well I have been your guest many times and I thank you for your willingness to share and document your knowledge and skill.

I have joined picturetrail and am in the process of uploading photos of the boat wherein I share ownership. 1915 Crosby Cat.

I initially used a freebee service that went 'belly up' and, I lost all my photos! Then it was Imagestation, the free version, then they started screwing around with that. I said enough and looked around for a good solid ( hopefully ) paid service and decided on PictureTrail.

I went with the most economical ( read cheap ) option.

Been happy with it.....so far and, it has been 2 years now.

O&O PacNoWest has it right. You get to see how many views each photo gets. Which for him is a good thing, what with writing his informative articles et al..

This might be a photo of TANG and crew leaving for Brooklyn. Well it is but not the way I intended. Still working. . .

Dave

I have been lurking for some time so let me say my first name is Chris and I have been watching your progress, can't wait to see your launch pics.

We moor in Sheepshead Bay with a crazy Maltese guy named Walter right in between the two "yacht clubs" there. His father used to have a railway, the winch is still where it used to be but it is just a bulkhead now. Very nice protected mooring and seems not to freeze that easily.

I have heard the LUNDYS is back open again, is it true? Have you eaten there? If so is the Oyster Bar as good as it used to be?

How about Papas just down the street?

Oakman.. There are a lot out there.. I used imagestation for a long time. It just..well, didn't really work well.
Switched to photobucket..Now I know someone here on the forum did not like it.. Somethin about firewalls or spam walls on a gov. computer. Photobucket did not work..
What I like about it..
Well, really simple.. once downloaded. under the pic. you have three choices.. Image, URL and something else. It is right there.. You can highlight what path you want, copy and post. Really simple for a simpleton.

Dave- Have not tried Lundys or Papas but I will put them on the list of places to check out. We have found Rondazzo's with the large neon lobster outside, excellent mussels in tomato broth with large chunks of garlic!

Oh oh, now I am confused. . . Dave I thought you used to own UNCAS. . . NO Jamie, your are AIRLIE now. . . . Tough to keep everyone straight without being right in front of you all. Well, AIRLIE, I have been watching your story and am excited for the launch of your new schooner. I guess Jonathan K. and I will have to get up a NYC EBS.

Thanks for the input, I have chosen Picturetrail which I am still working on but you can see a few photos at the link further up in the post.

It does get confusing.. and now to top it off a new guy has stolen my forum name.. calling himself Airlie1an... Now that is gonna be confusing. But I guess he just thinks that after I leave next month, he needs to carry on the tradition.
And yes, I did own Uncas...
And yes, I can't wait to get on Airlie.:D

There is always Mystic in June/July... LOL...
I think there is gonna be quite a crowd...

psss. when this " new guy " posts, I'm gonna have a few words with him...LOL

Are you leaving because you will not have internet access up in Canada?

Also, this boat I have spent some time in MD on Tilgman Island and is supposed to have had work done there. In my research I was given the name of Stanley Larrimore capt. of the skipjack LADY KATIE, and told he might have known this boat when it was down there. Do you know that area of MD or maybe Paladin?

I would love to find more info on our Catboat.

Kinda my neck of the woods... I used to hang around there a bit...
But not recently... Did some research there.. There are a few skipjacks left there.. I think the Lady Katie was being worked on.. rather extensively.
I don't know too many people there anymore though.

I like Flickr -- http://www.flickr.com/ -- there's two options: free and paid. The nice thing about Flickr is that it has no bandwidth throttling and they encourage sharing of your pics. The essential limit with both free/paid services is your upload bandwidth (with the free version you can upload 5mb images, up to 100mb per month; with the paid version, the image size limit is bumped up to 10mb and you can upload 2gb per month.) Lots of options for organizing your pictures, too.

And for those worried about losing your pictures, you can order backup DVDs or CDs from one of their affiliates.

I tried several and settled on Photobucket. I have never had a single problem with it. However, I know a lot of people who use Flickr. Both are very good. I would not recommend the Yahoo photo hosting. I have some photos on there simply because I have an account but everybody I have ever given a link to, to view the photos has had a problem of some sort.

Picturetrail.com -- I have one of the free accounts (so far) and the links are fast, interface pretty easy to navigate.
