I've been approached by someone who wants to commission a group of kids to build one of these boats. The lines come out of Kinney's revision of Skene's Elements of Yacht Design (8th ed.). She is 12' 1" LOA (10' LWL) and 3' 6" beam. She has two side planks, the garboard plank being narrower than the sheer strake, interestingly, and she has a flat bottom of course. The sheerline is reminiscent of a Gloucester Gull Dory but the bow is more spoon like/more plumb.

We'd build her glued lapstrake; he wants a boat 100 pounds or less.

This is the first time I'd heard or seen this design. It is a very elegant little boat and a perfect first project. I'd love to hear from anyone out there who has built them, rowed them, or seen much of them.

Cheers,
Clint

TX...I forgot to do a search! Looks like that boat was built plywood-glued of some sort. Six were built 15 some odd years ago by Phin Sprague and his guys...the gentleman who wants a new boat owns one now and raves about it...he wants a newly built one to replace his boat. If we got this it would be Compass Project's first commissioned boat (since I have taken over anyway) and would be a great project for our apprentices to build. We may build 4 of these boats next year if we can find some buyers up front. So spread the word...it is for a great cause. See www.compassproject.org
